Annual traditions in Honolulu

• Duke Kahanamoku OceanFest — August, Waikiki Beach. Waikiki's multi-day celebration of Duke Kahanamoku, held each August around his birthday: ocean sports across surfing, paddling, and swimming, a keiki surf festival, the opening ceremony at Kuhio Beach, and the birthday lei draping at the Duke statue. Many shoreline events are free to watch.
• Aloun Farms Pumpkin Fall Festival — October, Aloun Farms. Aloun Farms in Kapolei holds its Pumpkin Fall Festival across weekends in October, an island tradition the farm has now run for more than two decades. Visitors pick their own pumpkins in the field, shop the Country Market for locally grown produce and local vendors, take photos in the sunflowers, and watch family entertainment on the farm.
• Honolulu City Lights — December, Honolulu Hale. The City and County of Honolulu's annual holiday celebration at Honolulu Hale features a giant tree lighting, Shaka Santa, and an electric light parade.
• Holidays with the Animals — December, Honolulu Zoo. The Honolulu Zoo's December tradition has zoo animals unwrap holiday gifts, with Santa visits and keiki crafts at the zoo.
• Kauai Hospice Concert in the Sky — July, Vidinha Stadium Soccer Fields. Kauai's signature July 4th benefit for Kauai Hospice at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue — an all-day family festival of live music and food ending with the island's largest fireworks show.
